- Project Profile,Waterproofing
The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center is a 300,000 sq. ft. full renovation of an existing mall located in Los Angeles’ Westside. The design creates a more accessible open-air mall with increased focus on food and beverage tenants and activated outdoor spaces. Mallory Cabading worked with House & Robertson who provided full architectural services for many of the tenant relocations needed to facilitate the larger renovation.
The project was complicated by the complex phasing needed to keep the existing cinema and other major tenants open and operating throughout construction, and the need to interface existing elements and structure with new components in the most cost-effective manner possible.
The coating systems were installed by Westcoat QCA Empire Waterproofing. Interior spaces became exterior space when they started tearing down walls so the MACoat system was used to waterproof since there was no between slab waterproofing. Texture–Crete was used over the concrete that already had between slab waterproofing so the surfaces matched. TC-30 was also used to create slope in the areas where interior space became exterior since it did not exist originally.
ADVANTAGES
The MACoat™ System is mainly used on elevated concrete and non-fire-rated plywood walking decks, while ALX™ is designed for use on plywood. Both systems can be installed over old systems to provide an excellent method for the rehabilitation of problem surfaces. See system specs for details on ratings, evaluations, approvals, and certifications.
