Project Details

Surfsong HOA, a beachside condominium community in Solana Beach, California, recently undertook a project to refurbish its balcony decks and walkways. Given the community’s proximity to the ocean, the outdoor walkways endure daily exposure to harsh seaside weather conditions. John Steel, the HOA President, sought a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution to maintain the building’s integrity and appearance. This project showcases the effectiveness of MACoat™ Standard in delivering a robust and attractive solution for outdoor walkways in challenging seaside environments.

Addressing the Issue

The project began with Westcoat representative Marc Di Zinno visiting the job site. After collaborating with A7 Group architects, they decided on the MACoat™ Standard system with a knockdown texture and WP Wrap for added waterproofing. This system was chosen for its ability to withstand the elements and provide a slip-resistant surface.

The Solution – MACoat™ Standard

General Coatings Corporation, a loyal Westcoat QCA, managed the installation process. They started by removing the worn-out Dex-O-Tex from the original concrete surfaces. The concrete was then meticulously prepared for the new surface application. MACoat™ Standard, known for rehabilitating problematic surfaces, was applied, incorporating TC-3 Medium Texture Cement and WP-90 Waterproofing Resin for enhanced slip resistance and waterproofing.

The result was a significant transformation that impressed the residents of Surfsong. The new floors received high praise for their fresh appearance and durability. John Steel was particularly delighted with the outcome, even providing a glowing testimonial.
