Built in the mid 1900s, the historical North Park post office closed in 2011 due to service cutbacks. Instead of destroying this mid-century building, San Diego architects Foundation for Form, designed an urban mixed-use property that incorporates the neighborhood landmark.
New construction of 33 apartment units and 5,000 square feet of commercial space required substantial waterproofing for the many patios, balcony decks, and stairwells constructed plus a large multi-use roof top deck. WICR Waterproofing was hired to install Westcoat’s ALX Standard waterproof deck coating system to ensure protection from rain, moisture and spillage.
As decks were built flat, WICR sloped each deck 2” thick to zero with Westcoat TC-1 Basecoat Cement to allow for proper drainage. The ALX system was top coated with Westcoat SC-10 in Stone Gray.
You’ve Got Mail is a unique combination of residential and commercial space that retained its history and was designed for a long future with a durable and reliable waterproofing system that will stand the test of time.
