JOB SCOPE

A Mission Viejo HOA community was having deck issues and called on Design Build to come up with a solution to problems caused by years of damage due to poorly built decks. After assessing the scope of the job, Design Build spec’d the 100,000 square foot job for ALX due to the 1 Hour Fire Rating of the plywood waterproofing system.

PREP WORK

Island Pacific Roofing won the bid to install the ALX system but there was a lot of prep work to do on the badly damaged decks, landings and stairs. The units were also occupied during the construction so the installation crews had to work around the homeowners. First some of the decks required complete or partial substrate removal to bring the decks up to code for waterproofing.

APPLICATION

Westcoat’s ALX was developed for plywood decking surfaces and features high quality components for complete waterproof protection.  ALX standard was installed which integrates the finest acrylic resins and cement blends into a reinforced, galvanized metal lath and eliminates plywood seams. A series of polymer modified cements are applied followed by an acrylic topcoat and sealer. ALX waterproofs and transforms plywood into a concrete like finish.
