This residence, located in Castle Rock, Colorado was in dire need of maintenance on their patio. When remodeling their Minneapolis store, the consultant for the job contacted Westcoat regarding using our product.
The job spanned over three days and Westcoat QCA, CO Hard Surfaces, worked on fixing an exposed aggregate.
Project Details
After several unsuccessful attempts from other companies to fix an exposed aggregate patio, Westcoat was asked to be the 4th attempt. Nano Stain Prep & Seal was chosen to bring the color back to the patio and to repair bleached areas on the concrete. EC-95 was chosen to seal and protect the stained surface and prevent any future issues. We were confident that we could provide an even and consistent color to the concrete and protect it for a long time with this Westcoat system.
First, CO Hard Surfaces cleaned the patio using a pressure washer (4500 PSI) and an aggressive cleaner. This helped to remove the failing layers of sealer and soften the bleached spots. After masking everything off, they applied the SC-37. They noticed some areas of the concrete would need more stain than others, but were able to give a really consistent color throughout.
CO Hard Surfaces liberally applied EC-95 along with a non slip. A 600 sq ft patio drank up just under 3 gallons (uncut/undilluted), so we know this concrete is sealed really well. This is an integrally colored exposed aggregate patio that originally had some rust stains from patio furniture and some grease stains from a grill. A contractor was hired to remove them, and used some acid to remove the stains. However, the acid also removed the integral color. A second contractor was hired to fix the spots left from the first contractor. We aren’t sure what was used, but large bleached rings were left in the concrete. A third contractor was hired and sealed the concrete with several coats of a big box store product. All this did was darken the entire patio, not addressing the bleached areas. Our process and Westcoat system not only fixed the issues with discoloration, but we rejuvenated the entire patio with better color.
About Nano Stain Prep & Seal
The Nano Stain Prep & Seal System is a process of preparing the concrete and applying Westcoat’s Nano Stain and SC-70 Acrylic Lacquer Sealer. Nano Stain is a semi-transparent, decorative concrete stain. Nano technology allows for deeper penetration into concrete substrates. SC-37 allows for an easy, one-step application to safely stain. There are no caustic ingredients and unlike acid stain, there is no need for neutralizing or rinsing and the stain is low in VOC, making it a more environmentally friendly system. The stain is then sealed for protection.
Uses
The Nano Stain Prep & Seal System is designed to create a stained effect on textured concrete surfaces. This system can be used on exterior projects including restaurants, cafes, hotels, pool decks, patios and driveways, where leaving an existing texture is desired. Recommended for use on exterior floors where good durability and solid UV Resistance is desired.
